Family Support

Support for families includes:

  • Admissions
  • Support with transport requests and updates.
  • Finding and sharing useful local information and resources for families.
  • Signposting parents/carers to support services.
  • Developing positive links with charities and organisations.
  • Transition guidance for post-16 learners.
  • Organising school events for families, coffee mornings, workshops, and resource groups.
  • Parent / carer emotional wellbeing support.
  • Promoting positive attendance and punctuality.

If any parent or carer needs extra support for their child or their family and they do not have support from external services, we can work with the family to assess their needs and create a Family Support Plan or carry out an assessment with the family to create a Neurodiversity Profile.

Family Support Plan

Families should be supported to understand their children’s and their own needs or problems and be provided with advice, guidance, support and services to help them before higher levels of support or services are needed.

By listening to and speaking with parents and carers, we can undertake strong assessments with families and use these to understand their needs and plan effectively to support them.  If you would like to create a Family Support Plan, please email Michelle

Neurodiversity Profiling Tool

Children and young people who are showing signs of neuro-developmental needs can now access a new Neurodiversity Profiling tool which can help identify what support a child or young person may need.

The ND profiling tool is a visual document that assesses nine developmental strands of a child or young person aged 0-19. These include the following:

  • Speech and Language
  • Energy Levels
  • Attention and Impulse Control
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Motor Skills
  • Sensory
  • Flexibility and Adaptability
  • Systemising and Empathising
  • Cognitive Ability

It provides a holistic view of a child or young person’s needs and suggests types of strategies that can be put in place to help manage those needs in different areas of a life, such as at home, at their early years setting, school or college, and in the community.

The process of completing the profile is done with the family, and not for or to the family. If you would like to complete a profile, please email Michelle.

You can visit the Neurodiversity Hub for a range of information and resources in relation to Neurodiversity.

Referral for extra support

If the family has requested a referral for extra support, or a need for extra support is identified either straight away, or through the completion of the Plan or the Profiling Tool, our Family Engagement Lead can complete a referral for support on behalf of the family.

Referrals can be made to:

The Family Engagement Lead will continue to offer support to the family in school, and in any multi-agency meetings.
