This week in the Engage Pathway.....

Apple Class

We have been enjoying a series of Arts Lab dance and music workshops to promote creativity and wellbeing with the company Cscape.

The Benefits of Sensory Dance Workshops;

1. Promotes Physical Health:

  • Sensory dance involves full-body movement, improving motor skills, balance, and coordination.
  • It enhances flexibility, strength, and overall fitness in a fun and engaging way, making exercise feel less like a task.

2. Enhances Cognitive Development:

  • These workshops encourage creativity and problem-solving as participants are often encouraged to explore different ways of moving.
  • It helps in improving focus and concentration, as sensory dance requires attention to rhythm, movement patterns, and spatial awareness.

3. Supports Emotional Well-being:

  • Dance allows participants to express their emotions non-verbally, which can help with emotional regulation and provide a healthy outlet for feelings of stress, anxiety, or frustration.
  • The music and rhythm in sensory dance workshops can help reduce tension and promote a sense of calm, fostering emotional resilience.

4. Encourages Social Interaction:

  • Sensory dance workshops often involve group activities, which can help participants develop social skills, such as teamwork, cooperation, and communication.
  • It’s an inclusive activity that helps break down social barriers, making it ideal for participants who might have difficulty engaging in traditional group settings.

Redwood Class.

Redwood Class Shrove Tuesday Pancake Fun!

Redwood Class had a deliciously fun time exploring the ingredients for pancakes in celebration of Shrove Tuesday last week! The learners were hands-on, using their fine motor skills to scoop, pour, and whisk the ingredients together. It was a fantastic opportunity to practice coordination and teamwork in the kitchen.

The excitement reached its peak when Kirsty showed off her pancake-tossing skills! The learners loved watching the pancakes flip in the pan, adding an extra sprinkle of joy to the experience.

It was a wonderful morning filled with laughter, learning, and of course, pancakes! We all enjoyed the process and the tasty results.

Rowan Class.

Learners in Rowan class have enjoyed revisiting some learning prior to half term, in order to embed our skills and develop our anticipation and awareness of what's happening next.

Developing Anticipation and Awareness Skills: A Key to Success in School and Beyond

In both school and daily life, the ability to anticipate outcomes and stay aware of our surroundings can make a huge difference in how we approach challenges and opportunities. Developing anticipation and awareness skills is essential for learners looking to boost their academic performance, improve their decision-making, and build a foundation for success in the future.

What Are Anticipation and Awareness Skills?

Anticipation refers to the ability to predict or expect something before it happens. In a classroom, this might mean predicting what the teacher will ask next, recognising patterns in a subject, or preparing for upcoming topics. Awareness, on the other hand, is about being present and attuned to what's happening around you — whether it's understanding the tone of a conversation, noticing changes in your environment, or recognising when a task needs more attention.

Why Are These Skills Important?

  1. Improved Problem-Solving: Anticipating challenges ahead of time allows learners in Rowan to prepare more effectively and approach problems with a clear mindset.

  2. Better Focus and Attention: Awareness helps our learners to stay on track, pay attention to details, and avoid distractions. This is especially important during lessons.

  3. Stronger Relationships: Awareness isn't just academic—it’s also emotional. Being aware of how others feel and respond helps learners at Doubletrees to build empathy and communicate more effectively with their peers and teachers.
