This week in the Discovery Pathway.....

Cedar Class -
Cedar class have been learning about colour and colour words through the book 'A Colour Of His Own' by Leo Lionni. We have also been working on our independence skills, getting our own lunchboxes and organising our own resources. In maths we have been adding within 10, 20 and 50.
Maple Class -
We had our first softball session with Wayne and Ellie from Cornwall Cricket. All of Maple class engaged superbly and absolutely loved it! We started with some catching and throwing and then had a go at batting as well. It was so much fun and, we are already looking forward to the next session!
PE Focus: Developing Hand-Eye Coordination and Teamwork
In our physical education classes this term, our learners have been diving into activities that not only promote physical fitness but also enhance essential skills like hand-eye coordination and teamwork. These skills are crucial for both individual development and building collaborative abilities that will serve our learners throughout their lives.
Hand-Eye Coordination:
Hand-eye coordination is the ability to coordinate the movement of our hands with what we see. Whether it’s catching a ball, hitting a target, or executing precise movements in sports, these tasks require concentration and practice. In PE, learners have been engaging in various exercises and games that challenge their motor skills. Throwing and catching balls helps to refine their ability to make quick, accurate movements. Not only do these activities improve physical dexterity, but they also encourage focus and mental sharpness, essential for success both in and outside of sports.
Teamwork:
While individual skills are important, teamwork is at the heart of many sports and activities. Maple class have been learning how to communicate, collaborate, and rely on one another in team-based exercises. Through games such as cricket, they’ve been experiencing first-hand how working together towards a common goal fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility. These experiences help students build trust, respect, and leadership skills that are vital for success in both sports and life. The lessons learnt in teamwork extend beyond PE and help learners grow as individuals and community members.
Cherry Class -
Cherry classes visited the Eden project this term, to explore the rainforest and Mediterranean biomes, looking at all the exhibits and enjoying walking around with their friends. We had a picnic lunch and time in the adventure playground too, before heading to the core exhibition. A really lovely day was had by everyone. These visits help us to build our confidence with community engagement and help us to develop our communication, team-building and independence targets. Well done Cherry class!
