Our learners and staff are celebrating after receiving a prestigious Silver Artsmark Award.

Artsmark is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports them to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education across the whole curriculum, bringing learning to life for children and young people.

Doubletrees School had to develop their arts and cultural provision to embed a broad and ambitious curriculum. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.

Doubletrees School received professional support and training throughout their two-year period and developed partnerships with Cornwall Music Trust.

The Artsmark assessor commended Doubletrees School, stating, 'Engaging with the arts is having tangible results on pupils, staff, and parental engagement. Arts and culture feature in school planning, are supported by SLT, and newly in place Music (Charanga) and Art and Design (Equals for Art) curricula. Pupils access a consistent and relevant range of experiences in school which leads to showcasing. It’s great to hear about your Makaton choir, working with the Cornwall Music Trust, individual art portfolios and use of arts for their therapeutic value and trauma informed work. You have seen staff confidence grow through internal support, online training (such as that which comes with Charanga) and practitioner modelling.’

On receiving the award, our Headteacher, Heidi Hoskin, said:

“We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Silver Award. We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continuing to grow with Artsmark. Becoming an Artsmark school demonstrates that through offering a broad, ambitious and creative curriculum, young people have the opportunity to develop character and resilience, increasing their knowledge, curiosity and skills that will remain with them through to adult life.”
